지난번 연꽃 가든에서 여러가지 꽃 사진을 찍었는데...

이름은 모르지만 너무 예쁜 꽃을 발견해서 찍어 왔습니다.

모습이 너무 사랑스러워서 한번 찾아 보았는데...말로만 듣던 능소화 입니다

비도 잘 오지않는 여름이 참 덥고 힘드네요

"능소화 처럼 장마와 태풍과 더위를 자~알 이겨내시고 자~알 살아남는 여름이 되기를요~~~"

 

 

凌霄花

능소화는 ‘업신여길 능’, ‘하늘 소’자를 쓴다. 즉, 하늘을 업신여기는 꽃이라는 뜻이다. 
꽃의 이름치고는 꽤 거친 이름인데, 대체 왜 이런 이름이 붙었을까? 
그 답은 능소화의 개화 시기를 보면 알 수 있다. 능소화는 7월부터 9월에 피는 꽃으로, 만개 시기는 한여름인 8월이다. 
꽃이 8월에 핀다는 것은 어떤 의미인가? 
8월은 장마와 태풍, 그리고 푹푹 찌는 더위가 도사리고 있는 달이다. 그러니까, 자라나는 식물에게는 저주와도 같은 시기다. 
능소화는 그런 때에 핀다. 장마와 태풍을 견뎌내고 핀다. 
궂은 날씨를 퍼붓는 하늘을 업신여기듯 피어난다고 해서 능소화인 것이다.
