아사동 Battle of Resaca 사진들을 보고, 이곳 캐나다에도 비슷한 행사가 있는지 검색해서

지난 토요일 약 1시간 30분 거리에 위치한 Hamilton 근처에서 열린 Battle of Stoney Creek 재연 행사에 다녀왔습니다. 

Battle of Stoney Creek은 1813년 당시 캐나다를 점령했던 영국과 미국과의 전쟁입니다.

왼편이 영국군, 오른편이 미국군입니다.

    당시의 소총은 유효사거리가 80야드 정도라, 서로 마주보고 싸운 것 같습니다. 요즘 전쟁에 비하면 낭만적.

    재미있네요. 총을 안맞으려면 뒤로 좀 얼른 몇발자국 옮기면 되겠군요.

    이 전쟁을 비롯한 일련의 전쟁이 현재의 미국/캐나다 국경 (뉴욕주와 온타리오주)을 결정하는데 중요한 역할을 하였습니다.
    이 전쟁에서 영국측이 승리했었는데, 만약 미국측이 이겼더라면 지금 온타리오주가 미국에 속해 있을 수도.

    오..캐나다에도 이런 전쟁이 있었다는거와 그걸 기념하여 재연 행사를 한다는 것도 놀랍네요..

    흠,, 캐나다가 옛날에는 미국 땅이였나요? 왜 미쿡이 거기서 싸웠는지 궁금~~~

    옛날에는 북미가 원주민 땅이였지만, 1812 전쟁은 미국측의 영토확장을 위한 전쟁으로 해석되기도 합니다.
    이 전쟁의 배경에는 유럽에서 영국과 프랑스의 마찰로 영국이 해상권을 장악하고 미국 선박이 무역울 위해 유럽에 가는 것을 막은 것에 대한 보복도 있습니다.
    저도 이번에 알게 된 것들 입니다.

    저도 인상적으로 보았습니다. 전쟁 재연 행사때는 가운데 교회를 먼저 점령하는 편이 승리하는 것으로 표현했지만,
    예전에는 교회옆에 묘지가 항상 같이 있어서 여러가지를 상징하는 것 같습니다.
